ALBAWABA - The United States has started its efforts to launch a military base in Ivory Coast, days after announcing the withdrawal of its forces from Niger, following the 2023 military coup in the African country.

The head of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Michael Langley, who was on a visit to Abidjan two days ago, held talks with Ivorian officials with the aim to agree on opening a US military base in the country.

The visit was held on April 28 and 29, where Michael Langley, the Supreme Commander of the US Africa Command, spoke with the country's senior officials, including the president of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara.

The report shared by the French magazine Jeune Afrique confirmed that the Ivorian authorities are in support of establishing a US base in the country.

However, the report also added that they are worried about the location the US chose to build the military base since it is not far from one of the country's many international airports.
