CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) announced Wednesday that it has arrested a man in Mannington who was wanted in Harrison County.

Jason Lee Barr

According to a press release from the USMS, Jason Lee Barr, 50, of Mannington was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Service Mountain State Fugitive Task Force at around 3 p.m. at a residence on Highland Street. He was wanted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office for possession of a concealed firearm.

Barr and another man are accused of illegally possessing firearms during a traffic stop on Interstate 79 on March 8, 2023, where law enforcement officers said they recovered two firearms and methamphetamine from the vehicle. Charges were filed against the two on Oct. 2, 2023, following “laboratory confirmations,” the release said.

Barr was arrested in 2019 by Marion County deputies after he and another man were allegedly found passed out in a truck and in possession of three pipe bombs. He was also charged with possession of meth from that incident.

Multiple charges were also previously filed against Barr in May of 2023 including burglary and grand larceny; he was also charged with receiving or transferring stolen goods in a separate May case, according to West Virginia Judiciary online records.

Task force members were able to locate Barr after Deputy U.S. Marshals received a tip on his whereabouts which was verified by the Mannington Police Department. The release said that during the arrest, Barr attempted to hide under a camping trailer at the Mannington residence but was arrested without further incident once he was found.

Barr will be held in the North Central Regional Jail pending his court appearance. Task force members led the arrest efforts with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Police.
