Estonian court gives green light to Reidi Road construction

BC, Tallinn, 07.09.2017.Print version
The Tallinn administrative court on September 6th gave the green light to the Reidi Road development in Tallinn, reports LETA/BNS.

The court did not satisfy the notice of appeal of NGO Estonian Green Movement, in which the NGO wished for the building permit issued by the city planning department of Tallinn for the construction of the second stage of Reidi Road to be revoked.

The court said in its decision that the notice of appeal cannot be used to change the location of a road included in comprehensive plans that are in force. The court did not agree with the main claim of the appellants that the city should have carried out a new environmental impact assessment. The issuer of the authorization has enough information based on the 2007 environmental impact assessment and later expert opinions to decide whether building the road is permissible, the court said on Wednesday.

Nobody tried to dispute the first stage of the Reidi Road development project in the court.

An appeal can be submitted in the next 30 days. The initial legal protection ended with the decision being announced. A new application can be submitted to the circuit court.

Project manager for NGO Estonian Green Movement Mihkel Annus did not want to say to BNS if the organizations plans to appeal the decision, saying that the NGO wants to first get familiar with the court's decision.

According to the governor of Tallinn's Pirita borough, Tonis Molder, the citizens of Tallinn have a reason to be glad now.
