For 50 years in a row, the Brainerd Lion's water fountain has welcomed visitors to the Brainerd lakes area at the corner of Highway 210 and Business Highway 371, also known as South Sixth Street.

"With recent road construction down the 371 Business route, we didn't know if the tradition would continue this year," Brainerd Lions President Vicki Foss stated in a news release. "The fountain is located near the old water tower at the Law Offices of Breen and Person. After talking to the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the plans for that intersection, we know that our lion will be located in a new spot as early as August."

The lion isn't going far. Breen and Person are allowing the iconic lion water fountain to be located around the corner facing Highway 210.

"We are grateful for the continued partnership with Breen and Person and thankful that this Brainerd tradition can live on," Mike Leflex, vice president of the Brainerd Lions, stated. "I remember as a kid, being stopped in traffic at that corner and getting out to take a drink."

The Brainerd Lions Club is believed to be the second oldest club in the state established in 1921. The fountain is dedicated to the late Jim Martinson, a long-time active Lion in the community who took care of the fountain for years.

The Brainerd Lions meet twice month during the school year. In the upcoming month of July, Brainerd Lions help host the Wounded Warrior Softball team for the "This One's For Hop" Softball Tournament, Lions International Youth Exchange which welcomes 38 high school students from around the world to central Minnesota and service in community and the "Fishing For Dogs" Tournament, which raises funds for service dogs.
