The city of Brainerd is in search of applicants to fill vacancies on six commissions.
Seats are available in the following groups:
Cable TV advisory committee — one term expiring 2021, two terms expiring 2022.
Airport commission — one term expiring 2021.
Charter commission — two terms.
Water tower committee — various openings.
Parking commission — various openings.
Members of the cable TV advisory committee must be Brainerd residents, and Brainerd residency is encouraged for water tower committee members.
Members of the charter and airport commissions must be either Brainerd residents or have an ownership interest in a business or other property in the city. A background in business, tourism and/or aviation would be helpful for airport commission members.

In other business Monday, the council:
Approved a recurring event application for a pop-up produce pantry from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 24, Sept. 28, Oct. 26 and Nov. 24 on Mississippi Parkway.
Authorized the final payment for repairs to the Laurel Street bridge after a washout earlier this summer. The final payment is $38,219.02 to Landwehr Construction and will come from the city’s construction fund.
Approved a change order for northeast Brainerd road construction projects at a cost of $41,002. Money will come from the construction fund.
Approved a change order for the Buffalo Hills Lane and Mississippi Drive reconstruction project at a cost of $46,822.73. Money will come from the construction fund and be reimbursed through the storm sewer fund.
Authorized staff to hire three street maintenance employees.
Authorized staff to sell three pieces of street department equipment that are no longer used.
The equipment will be sold on public surplus auction, with the funds going into the capital fund.
Authorized the police department to sell a retired vehicle using Central Minnesota Dealer Auction. The vehicle was replaced earlier this year. The money from the sale will go to the department’s capital fund.

Scheduled a budget workshop for 6 p.m. Sept. 14, to discuss the preliminary 2021 budget.
Accepted the resignation of Staci Headley from the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport Commission, as she is moving outside the city.
Appointed Charles Marohn to the parking commission and the charter commission.
Heard Eric Charpentier was hired as the new executive director of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority.
