Traffic watch: Road construction round-up for Washtenaw County, July 31

ANN ARBOR, MI -- There are a handful of construction projects in Washtenaw County that could impact commute times, traffic and road closures in the week.

Here’s a list:

Maiden Lane between Broadway Street and Island Drive: A section of Maiden Lane will be completely closed until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 while contractors install utilities for a new building.

Northbound lanes of Thompson Street from East Madison Street to East Jefferson Street: An excavating company will occupy and close the northbound lane of Thompson Street until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Northbound traffic will detour at Packard Street, South Division Street and East Jefferson Street.

East Ellsworth Road: There will be a lane shift on East Ellsworth Road between Stone School Road and Shadowood Drive until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. Westbound traffic will be shifted to the road’s left turn lane through the construction zone. Eastbound traffic will remain normal.

Northbound lanes of St. Francis Drive between East Stadium Boulevard and Medford Road: This section of northbound lanes for St. Francis Drive will close for utility installation until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Northbound traffic will detour on Medford Road, Manchester Road, Washtenaw Avenue and East Stadium Boulevard back to St. Francis Drive.

Barton Drive on-and off-ramp to eastbound M-14: The ramps will close to traffic from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31, for maintenance. During the closure, vehicles can access eastbound M-14 from Main Street’s on-ramp.

There will also be a closure of one lane of eastbound M-14 between Main Street and Barton Drive until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 31.

South State Street from East William Street to East Liberty Street: Fonson Company, the city’s contractor, will be replacing water mains, storm sewer, sidewalks, street lights and road pavement until Friday, Sept. 2.

Northbound traffic will be detoured to northwest bound Packard Street, South Division Street, East Washington Street back to South State Street. Southbound traffic will be detoured to westbound East Washington Street, South Fifth Avenue, Packard Street back to South State Street.

The ramp from Michigan Avenue, or U.S. 12, to southbound U.S. 23: The ramp is closed until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. Traffic will be detoured south on Platt Road to the U.S. 23 ramps at Willis Road.

Maple (Foster) Road Bridge: This bridge that crosses the Huron River is still closed to all traffic. Maple Road Bridge closed in early July, and it is anticipated that its maintenance work will be completed in October.

Huron Parkway Bridge between Geddes Ave to Fuller Road: Contractors are completing routine maintenance repairs until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. The project will close one lane in each direction shifting the lanes accordingly. Two way traffic will continue throughout the project.

Events leading to street closures:

- Washington Street between Fletcher and Thayer will close from 6 a.m. to midnight on Sunday, July 31 for the Alliance (National Training Institute) Opening Ceremony special event.

- Downtown Ann Arbor Street closures from 4 p.m. Thursdays to 6 a.m. on Mondays until Oct. 31:

  • Main Street from William to Washington
  • West Liberty Street from Ashley to Main
  • East Liberty Street from Main to Fourth
  • West Washington Street from Ashley to Main

-Main Street Area Ann Arbor Social District from Thursday-Sunday, 4-11 p.m.

  • Main Street from William to Huron.
  • 4th Avenue from William to Huron.
  • Washington Street from Ashley to 5th Avenue.
  • Liberty Street from Ashley to 5th Avenue.
  • Ashley Street from Liberty Street to Washington Street.

OTHER AREAS IN WASHTENAW COUNTY (YPSILANTI):

Huron Street ramps to I-94: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has closed Huron Street ramps to I-94 to resurfaces M-17 between Huron Street and Summit Road. The project is set to end 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, according to a MDOT release.

Traffic for southbound Huron Street will detour to the US-12 ramp to eastbound I-94. Northbound traffic for Huron Street will take Huron Street to US-12.
