DANE COUNTY, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will hold a public meeting to gather input about improving U.S. Highway 51 from South Harrison Street in Stoughton to Larson Beach Road in McFarland.

The meeting is scheduled for April 24 beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a brief presentation starting at 5:45. The remainder of the meeting will be formatted as an open-house format and is set to end at 7 p.m.

According to WisDOT, the project's purpose is to provide safe and efficient transportation along the state highway corridor. The project will include replacing the existing concrete pavement, improving bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, and constructing roundabouts at the intersections of Rutland-Dunn Townline Road, County B, Mahoney Road, Tower Road, Exchange Street, and Larson Beach Road.

Construction is anticipated to take place in 2026 and 2027.

There will be two meeting location options:

  • Stoughton High School Gymnasium
    • 600 Lincoln Avenue in Stoughton
  • Waubesa Intermediate School Gymnasium
    • 5605 Red Oak Trail in McFarland
